The term “glam” is used to describe an era that was more about style than substance.
Part V – Grunge Era 1990-1994
The grunge era of the 1990s was a time of social and political upheaval. The Cold War was ending, the Berlin Wall came down, and the Soviet Union dissolved. America was in a recession with unemployment rates at 10%. The grunge era is characterized by a mood of desperation and anxiety.
Grunge music emerged out of this atmosphere thanks to the success of Nirvana’s 1991 album Nevermind which sold over 30 million copies worldwide.
